The Objective of Good Social Work Practice is to Treat Everyone the Essay
The Objective of Good Social Work Practice is to Treat Everyone the Same - Essay Example As the report declares individuals regardless of their age are treated the same way without regard for the different needs that they may have. Such view of mental health, however neglects the fact that unlike adults, children have a three-fold interest in the outcomes that result from acquiring mental health care, particularly the interests of the current child to ensure welfare and the interests of the adult-to-be in order to live a productive life, in addition to the fact that childrenââ¬â¢s interests as patients should also be considered. By not recognizing the inherent differences between adults and children, the possibility of hurting a childââ¬â¢s development, especially in an age of immaturity, in favour of providing uniform mental health care becomes apparent. This discussion stresses that not all social workers are also created equal, such that as Tom Wilks argues, ââ¬Å"[v]alues play an important role in the construction of social workersââ¬â¢ professional identitiesâ⬠. Thus, the manner social workers engage in with their clients and make assessments and decisions regarding them are guided by value statements that consequently affect their actions. Placed within the context of practice, these values play an integral role in the social workerââ¬â¢s ability to make sense of the situation surrounding a specific case. However, in the context of prescriptive policies that can be too restrictive on the actions social workers, their ability to make sense of a particular case and properly assess a client or patient can be endangered.

In addition, they also consider sign language as the first and natural language for application for Deaf people. The pre-lingual deaf is in reference to an individual born Deaf or someone who lost the sense of hearing before they began learning to speak. On the other hand, the post-lingual deaf is in reference to an individual who becomes deaf after acquiring a spoken language. In the bookâ⬠Train Go Sorry,â⬠the author describes two observations regarding the implications of being deaf before or after acquiring a spoken language. The first observation indicates that there are some educators and parents who believe that children who are prelingualy deaf will never be able to develop speech and language skills in comparison to the children who are postlingually Deaf. This eventually leads to social isolation and minimizes their chance of getting a decent job. For example, when the doctor recommended 17 year old James for a cochlear implant, the consequent evaluation and recommendation was not good for several reasons. The first reason being that Jamesââ¬â¢s deafness was caused by b acterial meningitis when he was at five years of age. Furthermore, after one and half of years of suffering from the illness, the inner ear developed a bony growth which inhibited the insertion of electrodes. The second reason being that James had a significant amount of residual hearing that enable him to benefit from the use of hearing aids. In the regard, the implication drawn was James disqualification as a deserving candidate for cochlear implant surgery. In retrospect, the cochlear implant is not necessarily an appropriate option for everyone. The second observation is that some educators, doctors, and parents believe that cochlear implant will allow the

Week3 Ethical Decision Making Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Week3 Ethical Decision Making - Essay Example They are victims of office gossip because they were being talked about behind their backs by their other co-workers. Their reputations have already been tarnished because of the gossip being spread by Sharkey. Sharkey does not gain anything in spreading the gossip because even if he has evidence to prove it, he should have gone to the HR and discussed the issue instead of talking to his co-workers about it. The HR will be in a better position to investigate the matter. HR should handle the problem because they can directly confront both Cypher and Sharpe without being subjective. They will be more objective in handling the case unlike Sharkey who has an ax to grind against Sharpe because she got the promotion he wants. Applying the second question of Professor Badaracco, one sees that the rights of Cypher and Sharpe have been violated. Sharkeyââ¬â¢s right to question the promotion is something which he can exercise but he must go through the proper channels. The proper channel is to go to the HR department and raise his concern to them. He can also go to his immediate supervisor to ask the reasons why Sharpe was promoted instead of him. Assuming that Cypher and Sharpe has no relationship as construed by Sharkey and the HR is faced with a decision of whether to fire Sharkey as proposed by Sam, the HR should weigh the consequences of its decision. As Professor Badaracco suggested, it should be guided by the question of ââ¬Å"what will work in the world as it is?â⬠(2002). The HR should resolve the issue by taking into account its decisionââ¬â¢s effect on the organization as a whole and how its decision will impact on all the concerned individuals. If the other office workers will find out that the promotion of Sharpe is due to her relationship with Cypher, then the morale of the other office workers will be affected. They will think negatively of management because of the questionable criteria for

Foreign Exchange Rates and Exchange Rate Risk Essay
Foreign Exchange Rates and Exchange Rate Risk - Essay Example The rates therefore are either determined through the market forces or by the central bank of the country to maintain and manage them at a reasonable level. It is also important to understand that when global firms deal in foreign exchange they also expose themselves to various risks. Every firm which deals in foreign currency therefore have to fact these risks and use different hedging methods. These methods vary depending upon the needs of the organization as well as the nature of the transaction. It is however, critical that each firm has to face these risks and must also manage them in order to avoid losses or reduce the risks and manage it at acceptable level. An exchange rate is the rate at which one currency is actually converted into another currency. It is also the value of currency of one country in terms of the value of the currency of another country. The value of two currencies is mostly determined in the open market in which many buyers and sellers actually determine the value based upon overall demand and supply of each currency. It is important to note that there are usually 2 types of exchange rates i.e. spot rates and forward exchange rates. Spot exchange rates are the rates which are offered on the spot for the buying and selling of any particular currency. However, forward exchange rates are determined for the currencies to be purchased or sold in given future date.
